As your King Holiday Parade planners for over 40 years, we have worked diligently to make this event inclusive of all races, creeds, and religions. The number of parade participants and on-lookers suggests that we have been successful.
Our MLK Holiday Program offers a fitting place to make that commitment publicly and in communion with a diverse community of like-minded people. The event is free and open to all. It features an invocation, speeches from community leaders, music, and a benediction. The parade immediately follows, starting from a nearby location. When available, the program for the event will be made available on this page.
Following the Silent March (approx 10:30 am)
January 20, 1986, the first national King Holiday was observed. Mrs. King requested that a bell ringing ceremony be held in Philadelphia at Independence Hall to launch the celebration of the holiday. The holiday is now observed by the ringing of the Liberty Bell as a Symbol of freedom and justice.

In 2016 The Martin Luther King Jr. Alliance established an Essay and Poster Contest for elementary, middle, and high school students with prizes to be awarded in conjunction with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday in January.

The opening program celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his unwavering commitment to equality, justice, and unity. The event culminates with a powerful silent march held in the style of the early civil rights movement marches ending at the Oklahoma History Center.
